About Our Farm
Greig Farm is a family farm located in Red Hook, NY. We think of the farm as an agricultural park. We welcome our community to visit the farm to pick seasonal fruits and vegetables, walk along our scenic farm trails, and spend a day here with friends and family. We’re proud to have been stewards of this land since 1942.
Marion and Robert Greig met in Hudson, NY and settled here in 1942 to start a small dairy and fruit farm. Marion came from a farming family in Delaware County and moved to Hudson during the war to lead the human resources office at a lifeboat factory. Robert spent his early career working for the Cornell Cooperative Extension service, where he helped other local farmers.
The farm started welcoming neighbors for pick-your-own strawberries in 1952, as a gleaning process to harvest the remainder of the crop after the peak of the season. Norman Greig, Marion and Robert’s son, returned to the farm in 1975 and began to make pick-your-own a core component of the farm. Over the following decade, the farm began growing blueberries, blackberries, asparagus, and pumpkins.
In 1998, Norman sold the cows and exited the dairy business. The 1850s era milking barn has gradually been renovated to welcome local artists and entrepreneurs to open their businesses on the farm.
We’re so fortunate to be part of a thriving regional food system and a wonderful local community. We hope to see you all on the farm soon!
