Farm Trails

Our farm has always been open to the public beyond the end of our picking season. For years, our neighbors have come to walk the farm roads that lead through our berries and up to the apple orchard. A few years ago we decided to re-emphasize our long-standing invitation to come explore our beautiful Hudson Valley farm by creating a network of dedicated trails.

Trails are located on both sides of Pitcher Lane (north and south) - by the Market and across from the Market.

North Farm Trails

Starting Point: Just behind the goat pen at 227 Pitcher Lane, behind the Market. Trails lead along the banks of irrigation ponds, through our hillside apple orchard, and down into our berry patch.

Distance: About 4 miles.

3 LOOPS: Running north behind 227 Pitcher Lane, by the Market.

  1. Blue Heron Loop (09. mi), named after a beautiful long-time resident blue heron, runs west around an irrigation pond and small field. The pond is home to ducks, geese, turtles, and some very noisy bullfrogs.

  2. Hill Orchard Trail (2.1 mi) offers scenic views of the Catskill Mountains off in the distance. And, if you’re lucky, you may stumble upon some of the wildlife that are so important to the ecosystem here on the farm. Often spotted are deer, rabbits, turtles, guinea fowl, and a variety of other birds. The orchard trail also runs through a small secluded forest section, where you’ll cross a pair of bog bridges.

  3. Frog Creek Loop (0.5 mi) - optional extension that diverts off of the Hill Orchard trail. You’ll cross a small culverted farm road that separates two old cow pastures. In the springtime, this little creek is often dotted with hundreds of frogs. As you walk along the culvert road, you’ll likely spot them jumping from the bank of the road and into the creek.

Southern Loop

Starting Point: Southside of 227 Pitcher Lane

Distance: 2 miles connecting to the Koi Pond, Flower Power and The O Zone Sustainability Center. It will also take you past our newly planted raspberry patch and cherry orchard.

The trails wrap along our very active farm, so the scenery along the trail will constantly evolve as we rotate our crops.

Trail FAQ

Where does the trail start?

The north trailhead is right behind the farm market at 227 Pitcher Lane. Walk behind the farm market and follow the left side of the goat pen down the hill underneath the willow trees. At the bottom of the hill, turn left off of the farm road. About fifty feet in front of you, you should see a sign that said “Greig Farm Trails”. There are two different loops that begin from this point: one marked in blue and one marked in white.

Are dogs allowed on the trail?

Yes! Please keep your dog on leash at all times and clean up after them.

Are mountain bikes allowed on the trails?

Yes, but please be aware that the trails are shared with walkers, runners, and families with small children. Keep your head up and be careful around sharp turns.

When are the trails open to visitors?

The trails are open during daylight hours. If the sun is up, you may walk the trails!

Where should I grab a bite after my walk?

Well, we happen to have a pretty great Farm Market and Café with a full lunch menu. Open at 10am. Eat inside or outside by the goats.
