9a – Guided Orchard Tour – Walk, Graze, Pick! Sample the different varieties, get to know the orchard. Drive to red U-Pick Booths on Pitcher Lane. Look for Apple signs. Booths are to the right or east of the market when facing it. We’ll direct you up to Wedding Hill. You can get ½ bushel bag ($30) at the start from your guide and fill it up on the tour – skip the booth line! Or pick any quantity & pay at the booth. Recommended Attire: Wear stable, comfortable shoes for uneven ground, sunscreen & insect repellent. Approx. 1 hr. Free- only pay for what you pick.

THE EXOTIC DYES
In this workshop we will dye with exotic dyes that do not grow in our climate including Osage orange, Myrobalan, Sappenwood, Logwood, Cutch, Alkanet, Cochineal, and Henna.
Each attendee will be given pre-mordanted swatches of cotton/linen and silk fabric and wool yarns for testing, recording sheet, printed materials on each dyestuff used, and resources on responsible sourcing, storage and disposal. Swatches from workshop 1 can be brought and tested as well.

A Three Part Series led by Myrto Daskaloudi of Moons of Aphrodites.
Understanding the energetics of the physical body through the Greek humoral theory. Learning some important terminology and actions to understand plants from an herbalist perspective. In the final class, we will go for a plant walk and students will try making their own associations.
Students are invited to bring their birth chart to this class as well! We will end the course making herbal medicine based on your charts. Materials provided. No previous experience required.

Mark Stonehill from Full Circus Farm will lead a workshop on growing fig trees in northern climates like ours. Variety selection, planting, potting, pruning, overwintering, and propagation by cuttings will all be covered.

In this class, we’ll taste a number of pre-made concoctions and brew up our own to take home. Then we can watch them ferment into something wild, unique and delicious that will hopefully inspire a season of sweet weird bubbly beverages.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the necessary steps of successful natural dyeing at home.
It starts with a short historical overview, and introduction into the basic categories and chemical groups of natural dyes. Then into the general concepts and steps of natural dyeing including the planning, scouring and mordanting process.
You’ll get a packet of different undyed natural fiber swatches consisting of linen, silk and cotton fabrics and wool and hemp yarns as well as a recording sheet and take-home literature. These swatches can be used at home or used in upcoming workshops.
We’ll be using Alum, soda ash, cream of tartar, iron, tannins, soy milk and dried sumac leaves. PPE provided.
You’ll walk away with a basic understanding of the planning, pre-conditioning and dying process, safety considerations, and with a packet of ready-to dye materials, excited to get dyeing!

Meet & Greet the dogs at 1 pm.
On this walk, we’ll meet Annabel Roberts-McMichael, forester & ecologist of Tend & Gather in Germantown and visit a forest regeneration project.
We’ll learn about forest ecosystems, tree ID, funding available for forest care for individuals and organizations, and enjoy some wild iced tea!
It may be hot, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen. All ages welcome.

This series of walks is with Annabel (she/they), an ecological forester who began foraging 15 years ago.
Let's walk together, and imagine, and practice seasonal hands-on tending of this ecosystem. And in return, hopefully find some delicious & nutritious spring foods.
We will learn about species we meet here from near and far (like ourselves), read a bit of history in the landscape, consider the future we see growing, and explore what our role could be.
We’ll talk about such as pruning, propagating, protecting, weeding, and planting (featuring recommendations of Flower Power plants!)
And, we’ll make a springy wild beverage or snack together.
